Aerial surveillance spotted dead pelicans on Mud Islands in Port Phillip Bay, prompting ground testing for H5 bird flu.
The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action sampled the pelicans and results came back negative for bird flu.
Monitoring of Mud Islands and other significant wildlife areas will continue, and the public is asked not to touch dead birds.
Do not touch or handle any dead birds you find, and report sightings to help Victoria track the bird flu outbreak.
