Tributes to the late ABC presenter Richard Morecroft, who died aged 70 after a cancer diagnosis, have celebrated his decades of wildlife rescue work alongside his broadcasting career.
In the late 1980s Morecroft bottle-fed a baby flying fox named Archie, keeping him tucked under his shirt and beneath his desk while presenting the ABC evening news.
Morecroft remained a lifelong supporter of wildlife rescue group Wires, and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese praised his unyielding humanity and passion for the natural environment.
