Christa Pike 'conscious, speaking' after failed US execution
US death row inmate Christa Pike, who survived a failed execution last week, is now conscious and speaking in hospital, her lawyers say.
"Her recovery is medically unprecedented. Her prognosis remains unclear but, at a minimum, we expect a long recovery," her attorneys say.
Christa Pike, who survived Tennessee's attempt to execute her by lethal injection last week, is now conscious and speaking in hospital, her attorneys confirmed.
Pike survived two doses of pentobarbital during the September 30 execution attempt, leaving her arms burned and blistered, her lawyers said.
Her attorneys are seeking a court order to preserve evidence from the failed execution, while doctors say it could be months before her full recovery is known.
