Two teenagers allegedly broke into a Werribee family home overnight and slashed the father across the face with a samurai sword while demanding car keys.
Both boys were on bail at the time, and one had appeared in the Children's Court just hours before the alleged attack.
The teenagers could not start the stolen Mazda, returned to ask the injured father for help, and were arrested when police arrived just in time.
